Our Family Company was founded at
the end of the nineteenth century in Barge, Piedmonte,
at the foot of the Cunese hills. An area naturally
rich in woodland and mushrooms, it was here that
the culture of conserving the Cep mushrooms using
entirely natural methods originated.
The founder, LORENZO GALFRE' was a mushroom merchant
who, together with his wife, decided to preserve
this important resource in olive oil in "Burnie"
jars, thereby making it available all year round.
He set himself up in an old room in the historical
centre of the town, directly under the family home
and began the preparation of the mushrooms, attaining
immediate success. The first customers were the
shopkeepers of the elite Turinese and restaurants
frequented by the nobility of the time: 'Il Cambio'
